MESTRANDO TIGRI
Mestrando Tigri has had an exciting, but difficult journey in capoeira. He started a capoeira club at Classical High School with his cousin, Shihan Fernando Fialho, after learning to his disappointment that RI didn't have a capoeira academy. This initiative eventually led to a college club at the University of Rhode Island in 1996. With no capoeira opportunities around him - he learned from various sources including books, videos, workshops and batizados/gatherings for the greater part of his beginnings, and spending many years with different national and international instructors. With the support of the University of RI, he traveled and trained with many mestres throughout the US. It was difficult for Mestrando Tigri to find a home for his stray spirit who was forced to support a group on his own. Being a non-Brazilian instructor in capoeira, particularly one with non-normed views, further supported a partially isolated existence until the partnership with Mestre Chuvisco from 2004
to 2011.
Tigri continues his work at the New Wave Martial Arts Academy in Warwick and continues to teach in other programs - MMA/San Shou and Shaolin Kempo Karate.
